Will a 'Fiscal Cliff' Deal Be Good for Stocks?

Stocks extended their gains Tuesday, lifted by energy and financials, as Wall Street remained hopeful that a deal would be made in Washington to avoid the "fiscal cliff."

The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced, led by Bank of America and Alcoa, after posting a triple-digit rally in the previous session.

The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq also rallied. The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX), widely considered the best gauge of fear in the market, traded below 16.
