Got Status? Delta, Starwood to Offer Reciprocal Elite Benefits
Crossover Rewards will launch March 1 and offer some elite frequent-fliers on Delta enhanced perks when staying at any of Starwood's hotels, including Four Points, Sheraton and Westin. And top members of Starwood's loyalty program, SPG, will gain some elite-level perks when flying Delta.
Expanding Loyalty, Driving Business
Most airlines and hotels currently partner and allow members to earn or redeem points between the two industries. But the Crossover Rewards program marks a first in that elite perks will be available — even if you only have the necessary premium status at one of the two companies.
The goal? To lure more travelers to their respective programs.
"This enriches the experience for our most valuable travelers, and gives both Delta and Starwood an opportunity to target frequent travelers who aren't already part of our programs, enabling us to capture a greater share of the global, high-end traveler," said Frits van Paasschen, president and CEO of Starwood, in a release.
How Crossover Rewards Works
Delta's SkyMiles Platinum Medallion and Diamond Medallion members—those who fly at least 75,000 miles annually—will receive priority check-in, 4 p.m. late checkout and free in-room Internet access when staying at Starwood Hotels and Resorts. Additionally, all Delta elites—those who fly at least 25,000 miles annually—will earn one mile per dollar spent on eligible room rates.
In turn, SPG Platinum members—those who complete 25 stays or 50 nights annually—will get priority check-in, one free checked bag and priority boarding when flying Delta. Plus, all SPG elites—those who complete 10 stays or 25 nights annually—will earn one point per dollar spent on eligible flights.
