Stock-Picking Value in the Rally: Pro

Stocks could be heading for a pullback, but a few picks still hold value, C.T. Fitzpatrick of Vulcan Value Partners said Tuesday.

"The market's gone up a lot," he said. "It's probably gotten a little bit ahead of itself, and I wouldn't be surprised for a slight pullback."

On CNBC's "Fast Money," Fitzpatrick said that there was "no particular theme or area" for his picks.

"We like U.S. multinationals who have a lot of exposures overseas," he said. "We're finding opportunities in the technology area and specifically not in the commercial banks but in the financial services industry on the edges of the commercial banks."

Fitzpatrick expanded on his positive view of the financial sector.

"There are a lot of companies that have very good business models, and they've kind of been tainted with some of the bad business models that the financial crisis exposed as being not so robust," he said.

Vulcan's top holdings included Nasdaq, Oracle, Dover, Parker, Everest, Cisco, Bank of New York Mellon, Franklin Templeton Investments, Apple and InterContinental Hotels.

Fitzpatrick also sounded positive on Apple stock.

"Apple is down roughly 35 percent from its peak of $705 mid-year last year," he said. "We've owned Apple for over a couple of years now. Our value has built steadily while we've owned it, and the stock price has fluctuated. When the stock was at $705, we reduced our weight in the company because the price had risen faster than our value.

"Since that time, our value has continued to rise – and the stock has declined, again, 35 percent – so we find it very attractive right now."
