CNBC's ETF Advisory Council is made up of six of the best independent ETF experts. Their biographies and disclosures are below.

Kim Arthur

Kim Arthur is a founding partner of Main Management, LLC. He currently serves as Main's CEO and as a portfolio manager. He is a regular speaker at industry conferences, most recently at the 2013 National Conference for TD Ameritrade Institutional and Inside ETFs 2013. Arthur's expertise has been cited in articles by Barron's, Wall Street Journal, Business Week, Index Universe and Fortune Magazine among others. Arthur has also been recognized by Institutional Investor Magazine as a "Rising Star" of Foundations and Endowments. Arthur earned a B.A. in Economics from the University of California - Davis and holds Series 7, 24 and 63 licenses from FINRA.

Matt Hougan

Matt Hougan is president of ETF Analytics and the global head of editorial for IndexUniverse LLC. In this position, he oversees the company's editorial efforts, including serving as editor-in-chief of the ETF Report and senior editor of the Journal of Indexes. He also spearheads the development and management of IndexUniverse ETF Analytics, an institutional-caliber tool designed to help investors find the best ETF in any area of the market. Hougan is a 1998 graduate of Bowdoin College.

James Lowell

James Lowell is a partner and chief investment officer of Adviser Investments a fee-only private money management firm with over $2.5 billion in assets. Lowell is a guest investment columnist for Forbes Magazine, and the editor of the multiple award-winning independent newsletter, Fidelity Investor (and www.fidelityinvestor.com). Lowell is also the editor of the weekly electronic sector trading service, Fidelity Sector Investor, and is the founding editor of The ETF Trader on Marketwatch from Dow Jones. Lowell is also a featured monthly investment strategist columnist on Marketwatch, and the Editor-in-Chief of The Forbes ETF Advisor by Jim Lowell, an independent investment advisory newsletter exclusively focused on exchange traded funds.

Tom Lydon

Tom Lydon is editor and publisher of ETF Trends, a website with daily news and commentary about the fast-changing trends in the exchange traded fund (ETF) industry. Lydon is also CEO of Global Trends Investments, an investment advisory firm specializing in the creation of customized portfolios for high-net worth individuals. Lydon serves on the board of directors for U.S. Global Investors, Inc. and the mutual fund board for Guggenheim Investments. Lydon is the author of The ETF Trend Following Playbook, as well as iMoney: Profitable Exchange-Traded Fund Strategies for Every Investor. He is co-founder of Virtual Summits, an educational virtual events provider for financial advisors.

Tyler Mordy

Tyler Mordy is President and co-CIO of HAHN Investment Stewards. Since joining the firm in February 2003, Mordy has become a recognized innovator in the design and application of "global macro" ETF managed portfolios. He is widely quoted and interviewed by the financial media for his global investment strategy views as well as ETF trends. Recently, IndexUniverse profiled Mordy as one of the "best and brightest" working in the ETF industry. A graduate of the University of British Columbia (Mathematics and English Literature), Mordy is a CFA charter holder.

Michael J. Vogelzang

Michael Vogelzang has managed Boston Advisors since 1997. As president and CIO, he is responsible for overseeing the firm's equity, fixed-income and alternative investment activities and general business practices. He also chairs the independent Board of Directors. Vogelzang earned a B.A. degree in economics and political science from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the Boston Security Analyst Society.
