Retail Winners, Losers to Watch: Pro

Shares of Macy's, Urban Outfitters and Gap could have farther to climb as 2013 wears on, Telsey Advisory Group CEO Dana Telsey said Thursday.

"It's all about the second half of the year," she said, noting that first-quarter sales were lackluster. "What the world of retail looks at is: How are same-store sales accelerating?"

On CNBC's "Fast Money," Telsey said that she liked three retail names:

• Gap: "The product's working," she said.
  
• Urban Outfitters was "getting the product right, particularly as they continue to finesse Anthropologie."
  
• Macy's was well-positioned to fend off JC Penney from reclaiming its lost market share.

"Look at what they're doing with the millennial strategy, and look at what they're doing with Omni-Channel," she. They're basically going out with guns a-blazin' to be ready for if there is an increased amount of promotions out of JC Penney.

Telsey also sounded positive on Ralph Lauren, despite a slowdown in luxury brand.

"What we are seeing is accessible luxury working," she added.

Telsey added that retailers to avoid for now included Bebe, Guess and Kohl's.
