Two more BlackBerry executives have left the struggling smartphone maker, Dow Jones Newswires reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
The executives had been in charge of key functions at BlackBerry, according to the report. T.A. McCann had been vice president in charge of all social networks at BlackBerry and Marc Gingras was in charge of retooling the calendar and contact applications for the BlackBerry 10 operating system. The news follows the departure of several BlackBerry executives last year, including co-CEOs Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis, Chief Technology Officer David Yach and Chief Operating Officer Jim Rowan. The current CEO, Thorsten Heins, took over in January 2012 when Balsillie and Lazaridis left. In early 2013, Balsillie sold all of his remaining stock in the company.
Sales of BlackBerry's make-or-break new line of smartphones in the quarter ended June 1 came in well below analysts' expectations and offered little evidence that the company can quickly win back market share from Apple iPhone, Samsung's Galaxy devices, and other phones powered by Google Inc's Android operating system.
BlackBerry has forecast another operating loss for the current quarter, but Heins said the company is on the right track and just needs more time.
