San Franciscans Battle Over Bacon Restaurant

In the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco, bacon is in the air. A new restaurant, Bacon Bacon, has been serving up a variety of bacon-related dishes and products, from the classic BLT to the less traditional Bacon Jam.

The wildly popular restaurant goes through 300 pounds of the meat every day, attracting people from far and wide.

However, all is not well for the bacon haven. In recent weeks, residents in the area surrounding the restaurant have issued formal complaints to the city that the smell of discarded grease has become noxious.

City Hall forced the spot to close, at least temporarily. The decision was issued despite an outpouring of support in favor of the restaurant, including the collection of 3,000 signatures.

Whether or not Bacon Bacon will reopen in its old home is unclear. In the meantime, it is rumored there are plans for another such place to open in the area. Today has the full story.
