Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg took home $10 million less in earnings from her job at Facebook in 2013 than she did in 2012, according to the company's proxy statement. Her total compensation came in at about $16 million; less money in stock grants accounted for most of the difference.

Other Facebook executives also took pay cuts: Mark Zuckerberg earned about $650,000—about a third of the $1.9 million he earned in 2012—and Chief Financial Officer David Ebersman pocketed about $7 million less than the $17.5 million he made in 2012.

Zuckerberg's steep pay cut resulted largely from his $1 base salary and decision not to participate in the company bonus plan.
