Second lines and start-ups: New tech sprouts in New Orleans

You knew about the music and food already, but the tech industry might be in the process of shaking up the economy of New Orleans.

Local news station WDSU, citing a report in Forbes, said the Crescent City has added thousands of jobs in information technology between 2009 and 2012.

Many are start-ups, which were attracted to the city by its legendary culture, plus the relative ease of doing business.

One transplant from New York, Samantha Diamond, explained the rationale for her move.

"We were so struck by the community here and the resources available, and how easy it was for us to start a business and really help it grow. We've decided to base our business from here," Diamond said.
