Chipotle Mexican Grill's decision to ask customers to refrain from bringing firearms into its locations could spark a backlash from customers, Republican Texas Gov. Rick Perry told CNBC on Tuesday.
"People get to make decisions about where they shop everyday, and if you want to do that in New York or Texas, that's your call and then people will decide where they shop," Perry said in an interview on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange on "Squawk on the Street."
Chipotle said it has traditionally complied with local laws regarding open and concealed firearms. But on Monday, the Mexican food restaurant chain operator decided to ask customers not to bring firearms into its stores after it claimed gun rights advocates brought military-style assault rifles into one of its restaurants in Texas.

"The display of firearms in our restaurants has now created an environment that is potentially intimidating or uncomfortable for many of our customers," the Denver-based company said in a statement on Monday.
Asked whether the customers will punish the company for its "no guns" policy, Perry said, "we'll see."
