Earlier this week at Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference in San Francisco, the tech company announced a slew of new offerings from developer tools and cloud capabilities to a home automation kit.
The much-anticipated HealthKit made its debut on Monday. HealthKit is a framework for developers that will store, retrieve and present information from various health apps and partners. Users will be able to check several health-related apps in one stop. While the exact details are still unclear, the company has mentioned partners like the Mayo Clinic and fitness wearable Fitbit.
Meanwhile, ZocDoc, a player in the health-care space could eventually be part of HealthKit. ZocDoc, which allows patients to find in-network doctors and book appointments online, is now launching ZocDoc for business out of its private beta and to the public so that employers can streamline their employees' health-care management.
"The problem is that companies spend $600 billion a year on health care and they can save money. Studies have shown that if you can save a dollar on wellness, you can actually save six," ZocDoc CEO Cyrus Massoumi said Wednesday on "Squawk Alley."
The company, much like Apple, has created a single space that combines several health-care needs. The site sorts through filters such as doctor specialty, insurers, locations and offers a check-in for many doctors so patients can skip the paperwork once they arrive. With the addition of this new service, it hopes to provide businesses with tools for their employees to easily access their health care.
