In what state will car repairs cost you the most?

If something in your car goes awry, you do not want it to happen in North Carolina.

North Carolina is the most costly state when it comes to car repairs, with costs 8.65 percent higher than the national average, according to a CarMD report outlined in the Christian Science Monitor.

The average cost of check engine system repairs in the nation's auto shops was $392.49. In North Carolina, the same repair cost an average of $426.25. To put that into more context, the same repair would cost $323.57 in the state reported to have the lowest repair costs, Nebraska.

Other states named for the highest costs, in descending order, were Massachusetts, Delaware, New Jersey and Virginia. The most common cause for repairs, according to the study, was faulty oxygen sensors.
