Zynga is returning to Nasdaq compliance with two new board appointments.
The video game company appointed Regina Dugan, VP of engineering and head of the Advanced Technology and Projects group at Google, as its first female board member. She'll chair Zynga's Nominating and Governance Committee and join the Product Committee.
Zynga is also appointing Kleiner Perkins partner John Doerr as lead independent director. Zynga had fallen out of compliance with Nasdaq's listing rules after two independent directors, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman and DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg stepped down last month.

In an e-mail to employees CEO Don Mattrick wrote:
Regina's impressive career includes becoming the 19th Director and first female leader of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the principal agency within the U.S. Department of Defense for research, development and demonstration of high-risk, high-payoff capabilities for the future combat force. As Director of DARPA, Regina advanced strategic initiatives in cyber security, hypersonics, social media, and advanced manufacturing.
One additional nugget of news: The company's making a point of the fact that Mattrick is recruiting senior executives to upgrade Zynga's team. In the last quarter there were some major management moves, including appointing David Lee as CFO and making Alex Garden president of Zynga Studios.
Mattrick has been in the CEO role for one year, and has been working to diversify the company away from its reliance on a few key franchises and to compete better in the mobile app space.
