Chart: Plane crash deaths by the numbers

The last 10 days have been some of the deadliest in aviation history, setting both recent and historical records in the process.

Between MH17 in Ukraine, GE222 in Taiwan and AH5017 in Mali, more than 450 people have died in recent days.

Even before those three crashes, though, this year was already one of the worst of recent times.

According to data from the Flight Safety Foundation, 2014 is already averaging 63 deaths per accident, far in excess of any year in history.

In terms of total fatalities, 2014 is already running more than twice the 10-year average, according to data from the foundation (which excludes military and corporate jets).

Of the 20 deadliest air accidents on record, two have been this year (MH17 and MH370).
