Best shopping apps for Labor Day weekend

Besides hitting the beach for the last time, there are plenty of end-of-summer deals to look forward to this Labor Day weekend.

To help shoppers find the best sales, here are a few standout mobile apps for iOS and Android devices recommended by Trae Bodge, senior editor for retailmenot.com.

Elephanti: With this app, users can seek out a specific item based on a photograph and find the retailers with the lowest prices on that item, Bodge said. Shoppers can also get discounts for "checking in" at certain retailers, rate the stores and create guest lists. The Milo local shopping app also shares a similar concept.

Slice: This innovative app keeps track of all of your online purchases, from the order details to the shipping information, by accessing your email account and then organizing it into one searchable list of retailers. It also alerts the user of when a price has dropped on an item that they have purchased and when a purchased item has been recalled, Bodge said. While Slice is partnered with a couple of the larger online merchants, such as Amazon, Best Buy, and eBay, they are not partnered with smaller retailers, Bodge said.

Zoomingo: This app searches for the best local sales at top retail chains, such as Macy's, JC Penney, Target, Nordstrom, and catalogs the sales by item so that users can shop the sale right from their mobile device. Users can also set up price alerts and be notified when the price of an item drops. "Like Slice, Zoomingo is only partnered with the big online merchants," Bodge added.
