Stocks may see some solid gains this September, even though it's historically known as the worst month for the markets, Bespoke co-founder Paul Hickey said Tuesday.

He told CNBC's "Fast Money" that the historical trend going back to 1928 may not apply this year.

"In the last 10 years, September has actually been pretty strong for the market. An average gain of 90 bps (basis points) with positive returns eight out of the last 10 times," said Hickey, who believes investors shouldn't trade on seasonal factors alone.
