Want an iPhone next Friday? This is your best hope

If you really want a new iPhone next Friday, and haven't ordered one yet, your only hope might be one apparently unloved model.

Apple's new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus went on sale Friday, and demand was massive.

Apple reported record pre-orders for the device, and AT&T also said it was the biggest day for pre-orders ever.

As of 9 a.m. ET Sunday, these are the estimated "available to ship" dates for each model of both phones, if ordered directly from Apple's online store.

Based on the number of carriers where day-of-launch delivery was still available, the least popular by far seems to be the 128 GB gold model, which can still be had for Sept. 19 arrival from any carrier. On the other hand, there are no silver models available for next Friday.

In fact, the most of the carriers are nearly out of stock for first-day orders, based on Apple's data, except Verizon.

For those trying to order directly from carriers, your luck may not be much better.

CNBC contacted each of the major carriers Friday afternoon to check on wait times for an iPhone 6 Plus, and got these responses:

Delays were also mounting for the smaller iPhone 6 when ordered direct from carriers. Verizon reported a shipping date of Oct. 21 for 32 GB and 64 GB models as of midday Friday, while AT&T reported shipping delays of 21 to 35 days.
