For Gordon Ramsay, the "bad boy" of celebrity chefs, there's no such thing as friendly competition.

In an interview with CNBC, the 47-year-old restaurateur and TV personality who is currently in Hong Kong to open a branch of his casual dining eatery, Bread Street Kitchen, took a dig at fellow celebrity chef Jamie Oliver who launched a family-style Italian bistro there earlier this year.

"Two British chefs, Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay, rubbing shoulders together in Hong Kong. At least I'm here, I came to my opening, right? If you're going to open a restaurant in Hong Kong at least turn up," he said.

Oliver was not present to launch his restaurant, Jamie's Italian, in late July as he felt his appearance would detract from the work of the team that opened the venue, the restaurant chain's international chef director was quoted as saying in South China Morning Post.

However, he did introduce his new Hong Kong eatery to local customers with a taped greeting in Cantonese, where he comically butchered the language.

Master chef on a mission

In any case, Ramsay's not sweating the competition.

"From 1 to 2 to 3 Michelin stars - I'm not shy about competition. Let's get that right," he said.

Ramsay said the decision to set up shop in Hong Kong – his first foray into Asia – was driven by the vibrancy of the market.

"Hong Kong is an amazing hub, not just for that level of creativity but we have a lot of chefs back and forth [between] London [and] Asia," he said.

From humble beginnings to the owner of a restaurant empire with a total of 14 Michelin stars, Ramsay's culinary career has been nothing short of stellar.

When asked how he views himself, Ramsay joked, "I see myself as a very fit, iron man chef/entrepreneur...still at the age of 47 I get out of bed in the morning and look at my six pack. Very few chefs can say that."
