In an address to the U.S. Congress on Thursday, Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko appealed to the U.S. to support Ukraine's freedom and democracy before unrest spread to other areas with large Russian populations.
"I urge America to help us. I urge America to lead the way," Poroshenko said.
He asked specifically for a "strong modern army" and for the United States to be "forceful and stand firm in its sanctions against the aggressor."
Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko was expected to request more economic and military aid for his country while in D.C.
