Americans use a disproportionate part of the world's energy, but on a list of countries that use the most energy per person, the U.S. barely makes the top 10.
A report from Oilprice.com broke down the 10 countries that are the biggest users of energy per capita, and most of the nations on the list are surprises. The United States came in at No. 9 on the list, right behind Canada at No. 8.
Oilprice.com generated its list by examining World Bank data and determining the amount of energy used per person based on "kilograms of oil equivalent," or units of energy equal to what's generated by one kilo of crude. It's important to note the top 10 per-capita energy-using nations are not the same thing as top 10 greenhouse gas emitters per capita.

In addition to the U.S. and Canada, the top 10 list includes three Persian Gulf states, one Southeast Asian country, a Caribbean country and three nations in Europe (including No. 1 on the list, which despite burning huge amounts of energy per person, is extremely "green.").
