Wells Fargo is an attractive place to work and has a competitive compensation package, its chief financial officer told CNBC on Tuesday. His comments were in response to a recent companywide email sent by a worker to the CEO asking for a $10,000 raise for employees.
"We survey to find out whether the wages that we pay are competitive," John Shrewsberry said in an interview with "Closing Bell," noting that the response rate is through the roof.
"We attract and retain the best people in the business and we think that our total compensation, cash, benefits, training opportunity, job and growth opportunity is very competitive."
The email, written last week by 30-year-old Wells Fargo employee Tyrel Oates, asked the company to give each of its more than 260,000 employees a $10,000 raise, according toThe Charlotte Observer. It was directed to CEO John Stumpf and about 200,000 employees were copied.

In an interview with the paper, Oates said he had no regrets and had received many thank-yous from co-workers.
Shrewsberry declined to specifically address Oates and his letter, telling CNBC "it's not fair to him" to comment specifically on an individual team member.
