After , CEO Jeff Bezos may have fallen out of favor on Wall Street, but he's still tops with Harvard Business Review.
Bezos took the No. 1 spot as the publication ranked the world's best-performing CEOs.
To determine the list, the review weighed a slew of quantifiable metrics, such as industry-adjusted shareholder returns, country-adjusted shareholder return, and increase in market capitalization during a chief executive's tenure.
''We wanted to recognize CEOs who are building value and delivering results year after year—not just in the short term,'' Editor-in-Chief Adi Ignatius said in a statement. ''We approached the task scientifically, basing the ranking on hard data, not on reputation or anecdote.''
Speaking to the weaker-than-expected earnings on CNBC's "Power Lunch," Harvard Business Review Editor Dan McGinn said that "Bezos is focused on growth and focused on reinvestment even if it sacrifices quarterly profits."

It's that commitment to his company, that, in part, propelled him to the top of the list.
Shareholders may not be quite as impressed. According to a CNBC poll, when asked if Bezos should be number one on this CEO list, only 24 percent said yes.
