David Mizejewski of the National Wildlife Federation has good news—a zombie apocalypse is next to impossible. According to his article "Zombies vs. animals? The living dead wouldn't stand a chance," the undead would be so busy getting mauled by grizzly bears that they would have few opportunities to consume any live humans.

Still, just because something defies basic science is no reason to stop planning for it. If you're the kind of person who worries about being eaten alive by ghouls, then chances are you've already packed your bug-out bag, hoarded canned goods and amassed an impressive stockpile of weapons. But do you have the right car?

If you need your ride to ride out catastrophe, it would need to fulfill certain criteria. Jeff Allen of CNBC's "The Car Chasers" was only too happy to give his opinion of which ones qualify, and Karl Brauer, senior analyst at Kelley Blue Book, also offered his insights.

Movie zombies are not particularly bright, but in 2005's "Land of the Dead," they learn how to use firearms. Jeff Allen of CNBC's "The Car Chasers" said that if the job is withstanding undead gunfire, then the Mercedes G-Wagon Light Armored Patrol Vehicle is the car for the job.

"This vehicle is fully armored, in the event the zombies learn how to shoot back," he said. "The G can also haul 1.3 tons of payload for all the weapons and supplies needed to take out our undead friends."

Zombie movie heroes often encounter ghouls by the dozen. According to Allen, the Paramount Marauder is the ideal ride for plowing through the densest swarm of undead automatons.

"This vehicle is said to be able to destroy anything in its path, which is great while moving through zombie-infested areas," he said.

"This truck is an excellent choice when needing to reach high ground fast," Allen said, citing its off-road suspension. Brauer also recommended it, describing it as ideal for back road four-wheeling.

"High population centers become high-density zombie zones during the zombie apocalypse, suggesting a path less traveled is more desirable," he said. "To deal with crumbling secondary or nonexistent roads, you'll want to use a Ford F-150 Raptor."

Lucio Fulci's 1979 film "Zombie" features a ghoul who wrestles a shark, but this instance aside, movies have firmly established that the undead don't swim. For this reason, Allen recommended the AAV7 Assault Vehicle, which can travel across a body of water. But wait, there's more!

"This vehicle is armored and has a 300-mile range," he said. "It can haul a large payload of supplies and also comes with grenade launchers and .50-caliber machine guns, which are an added bonus during a zombie attack."

Zombies may not be particularly bright, but anybody who's seen 1968's "Night of the Living Dead" knows they can smash a car's passenger-side window with a rock. Brauer recommended driving the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe as a preventative measure.

"[It] has 6-millimeter-thick window glass, primarily to reduce wind noise," he said. "But it also helps deflect thrown objects and the sound of zombie groans as they hurl stones, sticks and bricks at your high-end luxury ride."

"The Car Chasers"

"The Car Chasers" is all about making big bucks buying, fixing and flipping cars. Set in Lubbock, Texas, Jeff Allen and Meg Bailey return with 16 new half-hour episodes, determined to bring their business, Flat 12, to a higher level – more cars, deals worth more money and larger, riskier business ventures. Jeff and Meg scour the country, hunting for American muscle cars, classic hot rods and the absolute sexiest European models.

Whether a car needs a total overhaul or just a little bit of TLC, their expert mechanic Luke Cork and resident mad scientist Eric Ables, have the skills to take on just about any job. Each week, their goal is simple: buy low, sell high and maintain a steady flow of cars, customers and cash. Invest too heavily in a remodel or misread the market for a car and the "Flat 12" crew can lose a bundle. And when it comes to competition, Jeff's dad, Tom Souter, aka "Roundman," continues to be their number one rival. Profits trump bloodlines in this part of West Texas.

Hunting zombies is an inexact science. It can be hard to tell predator from prey, and in a moving car, that task becomes more difficult still.

Luckily, the miracle of infrared technology allows drivers to differentiate between living, warm-blooded civilians and reanimated, cold-blooded corpses. According to Brauer, this feature can be found in the Audi A7.

Knight XV

Society may collapse in most zombie movies, but that's no reason for the affluent to sacrifice their high standard of living. For the well-to-do apocalypse survivor, Allen recommended the Knight XV sport utility vehicle.

"It has all the luxury appointments of a world-class touring car, with a twist being fully armored and hand built," he said. "The zombies won't appreciate being run down in such a high-class ride, but the driver will be very comfortable doing so in the leather seats."

Movie zombies always used to be slow. Then, 2002's "28 Days Later" came along, and every zombie gained the agile speed of Usain Bolt. Allen recommended the 707 horsepower Dodge Challenger Hellcat, when evading these high-speed predators.

"This vehicle is great for those much-needed fast escapes," he said. "It's not armored, but it has room for an assortment of assault weapons. If you choose this vehicle, also choose your co-pilot carefully. A military-trained sniper, perhaps."

If your car has a protruding hood ornament, a zombie can grab on to it while your car is moving and possibly gain entrance. Brauer recommended safeguarding against this fate in the all-electric 2015 BMW i3, whose aerodynamic curvature has almost nothing to grab on to.

"Zombie tenacity is legendary," he said. "You can shoot them, stab them or light them on fire, and they'll keep trying to eat your brains. They'll also latch on to anything their bony fingers can get a hold of, so you want a slippery ride, free of improvised grab handles."

The best offense is a good defense. A cliché, to be sure, but one that is never more true than when the highway is clogged with the undead. When that happens, your car had better have a responsive steering wheel.

"The all-new 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 comes standard with Magnetic Selective Ride Control," Brauer said. "It's an advanced suspension that can be tuned for maximum lateral Gs and further supported by super-sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires."

If you're going to escape a swarm of zombies, why not do so in an automotive classic with a long Hollywood history? Allen recommended the 609 horsepower Shelby GT500 for this reason.

"Through the years in movie history, the Mustang has been able to take a lot of abuse and keep right on coming," he said. "In my opinion it's a great getaway car for any zombie situation."

Anyone who survives the zombie apocalypse may be reduced to securing food and supplies by looting. But where will you put all that stuff? According to Brauer, you'll put it in the 2015 Acura MDX's very large trunk.

"This luxury SUV offers 132 cubic feet of interior volume, with 90 cubic feet behind the front seats, where you'll be storing water, soup cans and Twinkies," he said.

When the zombie apocalypse happens, you'll need lots of guns, but they won't do you much good if you don't have enough storage space. Luckily, Brauer said that the 2015 Honda CR-V offers it in spades.

"[It] offers a wealth of functional storage areas in a space-efficient package, making it easy to organize your weapons, food, flashlights and any other anti-zombie paraphernalia," he said.

Kia Soul

Post-apocalyptic dog lovers will want their canine buddies to ride in style, as they ride out the eradication of the human race. Brauer said that the 2015 Kia Soul is the ideal car for that canine companion.

"Man's best friend deserves a comfy spot of his own, which the boxy 2015 Kia Soul provides," Brauer said. "The small utility vehicle has a large rear hatch for Fido to jump in and out of, and enough space to call his own during those endless nights."

If you're surrounded by zombies and your ammo has run out, you can always plow through them with your car. However, using your car as your primary weapon could dent the body.

"While plowing into the undead can be fun, you need a car that can hold up even as it runs them down," Brauer said. "The 2015 Infiniti Q70 just passed the IIHS' stringent small overlap test with flying colors, indicating the front end is strong enough to pound zombies with abandon."
