Aaron Sorkin's Steve Jobs biopic is no longer the apple of Sony Pictures' eye. In a surprise move, the studio pulled out of the film, once again leaving the project in flux, Variety reported.
Previously, the production was put into question after actor Christian Bale dropped out of the role of the late Apple founder. Producers recently re-cast Michael Fassbender in the part and are in talks with Seth Rogen to play the tech company's co-founder Steve Wozniak. The film, set to be directed by Danny Boyle and written by Sorkin, is based on Walter Isaacson's biography on Jobs.

Variety wrote thar Sony's reasoning behind its departure was unclear, since the studio had acquired the rights to the film in 2011 after Jobs' death. An unnamed source told the publication that Universal Studios may pick up the film. CNBC is a subsidiary of NBCUniversal, which also owns Universal Studios.
