Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina is preparing to launch a campaign for president, according to a report from National Journal.

Fiorina, who led HP until 2005 and campaigned for Senate in 2010, is hiring for an "imminent" presidential run, according to the report. Accounts that the former executive was weighing a campaign surfaced last month, but a source told National Journal that the official announcement could come as early as January.

Fiorina has acknowledged that she would presumably be in the minority as a female candidate in the Republican primaries.

"Look, I think it would be great if we had female candidates—or candidate," Fiorina told National Journal earlier this year.

The report indicates that Fiorina has "authorized members of her inner circle" to begin seeking candidates to be her political director and communications director.
