Amazon sellers sold record number of items in 2014

Amazon.com on Monday announced sellers from more than 100 countries set a new record in 2014, selling more than $2 billion items.

China and Hong Kong-based sellers with international sales grew 80 percent year-over-year, the company said, while

In total, sales by Amazon sellers represented 40 percent of the total units sold for the year.

The online retailer also said its fulfillment and customer service grew more than 65 percent year-over-year worldwide.

"[T]here are now more than a billion offers for customers to browse from sellers who are listing items for sale outside their home country," said Peter Faricy, vice president for Amazon Marketplace, said in a statement. "The growth of mobile and the introduction of the Amazon Seller App have also been a big win for sellers this year."
