Dish Network's Sling TV hopes to give consumers just what they need to finally cut the cord from traditional television.

The streaming TV service just opened to the public on Monday. Here's what you need to know about it.

Sling TV costs $20 per month, with no set-up fees or commitment. After signing up, consumers can instantly start watching the shows it offers.

ESPN, TNT, TBS and the Disney Channel are among what's offered (with additional channels available for $5 extra) but reviewers point out that there are four big names missing—ABC, NBC, FOX and CBS. Sling TV's CEO said adding those channels would raise the price tag considerably.

As of now, the service is available on a number of operating systems, including Roku, Apple iOS, Android, Mac or PC.

While Sling TV could hook sports fans with ESPN, it remains unclear whether its other content offerings could cause potential cord cutters to part with their cables boxes anytime soon.
