Drop the mic! Apple just hired a radio DJ

Apple, the world's most valuable brand worth more than $483 billion, has invested its time and money in a radio DJ.

Zane Lowe, one of the U.K.'s most established radio presenters, has announced that he will be leaving BBC Radio 1 in favor of a job across the pond, with none other than the U.S. tech giant, Apple.

However, while he's announced he will be working with Apple, there's seems to be a tight lid on what his actual job will be with the company.

The news of Zane Lowe's appointment comes as speculation arises about Apple's development in its streaming service, Apple Beats.

At the beginning of February, industry news website 9to5Mac reported that the tech giant was working on a paid streaming service that combines both its music content and Beats, which it acquired from $3 billion in May 2014, to compete against streaming services Spotify and Rdio.

Mr Lowe said he was excited about the new journey that lies ahead. "I want to thank everyone at Radio 1 - for their support and friendship. The station has allowed me to share incredible music with the country's best music fans - I've loved every minute of it. Exciting times lie ahead," said Zane Lowe in a statement about his departure.

While Mr Lowe hasn't made a huge footprint in the U.S. (yet), he has featured at internationally acclaimed festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury, and has contacts with many popular artists.

Furthermore, he has 635,000 Twitter followers and a large fan-base on Facebook, which could help if Apple needs some celebrity endorsement on social media.
