Apple iPhone users who send emoji-heavy messages may soon find more options in their arsenal.
A beta version of Apple's iOS operating system features expanded emoji choices, including varied skin tones for faces, the company told CNBC. Apple recently sent the software to developers for testing.
"Apple supports and cares deeply about diversity, and is working with The Unicode Consortium to update the standard so that it better represents diversity for all of us," an Apple spokeswoman told CNBC.
Apple has not yet set a release date for the iOS 8.3 update.
