Rob Ford’s 'crack confession' tie sells for $13,000

A necktie belonging to disgraced former Toronto Mayor Rob Ford that was worn at the press conference where he confessed to smoking crack has fetched C$16,100 ($12,997) on eBay.

The tie, emblazoned with NFL team logos, was sold on Wednesday after garnering 111 bids since it was posted to the site on February 25.

It's one of many pieces of "memorabilia" being auctioned off by the former mayor, including a pair of pyjama pants which, according to the post, Ford wore "on a shopping trip to Wal-Mart." The pants sold for C$600.

Ford rose to international notoriety in 2013 when a video surfaced that allegedly showed the mayor smoking crack-cocaine. Ford later admitted to using the drug at the press conference. He had already owned up to an alcohol problem.

Despite the controversy, Ford remained popular among voters and had originally planned to run for re-election, but stood down after being diagnosed with abdominal cancer in September. He subsequently won a position on city council.

Still on auction are a Grey Cup seat cushion, jerseys, a "Ford Nation" sweatshirt and a number of autographed photos.

Ford told reporters last week that 10 percent of the money raised from the auctions will go towards Toronto's Mount Sinai Hospital while the remaining cash is earmarked for yet-to-be-determined charities

The posts guarantee "you are bidding on an original piece of memorabilia from former Toronto Mayor, and current Toronto Councillor Rob Ford" and come with a "signed, original, Certificate of Authenticity from Councillor Rob Ford himself."
