A train carrying oil derailed in Ontario, the company that owns the train said Saturday, which sparked a fire but no casualties.
The train jumped the tracks at approximately 2:45 am. Emily Hamer, a spokesperson for CN Rail, said in a statement that the company was responding to a derailment 2 miles northwest of Gogama, located in northern Ontario.
"There are no reports of injuries, but the crew has reported a fire at the derailment site," Hamer said. "Emergency crews are conducting a full site assessment and activating the emergency response plan with local officials. The train is a unit train carrying crude oil."
The incident was the third in a month for CN, and comes amid a rash of similar derailments within a short time frame. On Thursday, a BNSF train jumped the tracks near Galena, Illinois, while a separate CN train also suffered a derailment. Last month, a CSX train derailed in West Virginia.
