Verizon's FiOS TV will no longer carry The Weather Channel, after the contract between the two parties expired and was not renewed.

Instead, the television service provider will add the AccuWeather Network to its platform and provide it for free on its mobile app.

"In today's environment, customers are increasingly accessing weather information not only from their TV but from a variety of online sources and apps," Verizon said, in a letter to customers.

The Weather Channel said it learned of Verizon's move without warning late Monday night and urged "FiOS customers to contact Verizon and voice their displeasure," according to a Tuesday statement.
