Every day about 4,000 people visit the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas—the site of the reality show "Pawn Stars." Yet despite that success, the show's star and the shop's owner, Rick Harrison, isn't sitting still.

"Television shows go away," Harrison said in an interview with "Closing Bell" on Thursday.

Among his new endeavors is the mall he's building across the street from his store, called Pawn Shop Plaza. He's also opening a restaurant and bar in it.

"It's a giant strip mall that sort of looks like a Rubik's Cube. We wanted to build it really different," he said.

The bottom floor and part of the top floor have already been rented.

He also has an app called Rick Harrison's Trivia Challenge, and hosts the game show "Pawnography."

Of course he is best known for his pawn shop, which he said is the No. 1 nongambling tourist destination in Las Vegas. Because the show airs in 150 countries, about half the people who visit the store are foreign tourists, he said.

Harrison said the key to his success is making sure he keeps his customers happy and his business continually innovating.

"Businesses that don't evolve are businesses that die."

That means if he doesn't get good merchandise coming into the store, he has to find it elsewhere.

"You have to have what your customers need because if you don't have what your customers need you're not going to have customers."

These days, Harrison said his customers are interested jewelry, quality watches and art.

"People have larger homes now, they need to fill up more walls," Harrison noted.
