Amazon users can now have groceries, prepared meals and baked goods delivered to them in under an hour in Manhattan as the e-commerce giant expands its fast delivery service.
The service, called Amazon Prime Now, was launched last month and originally offered the delivery of goods such as and batteries.
But on Thursday, the e-commerce giant said it was extended the scope of the service and offering items from D'Agostino, Gourmet Garage and Billy's Bakery in Manhattan.
Users can open the Prime Now app and place an order. The one hour deliver costs $7.99 while the two-hour time frame is free.
Amazon said the service is starting today but will "expand across Manhattan in the coming weeks" and will add more stores to the offering.
"We are launching delivery from local stores through Prime Now in Manhattan today and will add local stores in other cities where we offer Prime Now soon," said Dave Clark, Amazon's senior vice president of worldwide operations, said in a statement.

Amazon has been extending the range of items it delivers. Last year it launched Amazon Fresh—a grocery delivery business.
But the e-commerce giant has competition in the space from the likes of UberEATS which allows people to order cooked food from local restaurants and have it delivered to their location.
