Come June 1, Olive Garden customers will notice some changes at the casual dining chain, which plans to debut nine new menu additions with a focus on Italian comfort food and new twists on staple menu items such as its breadsticks.
In addition to debuting breadstick sandwiches, the Darden Restaurants unit is also adding items like sausage-stuffed giant rigatoni, a shrimp fresco small plate and vanilla panna cotta with blueberries, the company wrote in an email Thursday.
The menu changes follow pressure from activist investor Starboard Value, which sent a 294-page document to the chain criticizing its operations, including a lack of salt in its pasta water.
Bloomberg first reported news of the menu changes.
