Faced with an egg shortage, fast food restaurant Whataburger has some disappointing news for breakfast lovers: it is paring down its breakfast hours. (Tweet this)
Starting Monday, the restaurant will be trimming the time it serves breakfast to 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. during the week and 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. on weekends. This is a sharp decline from its typical 11 p.m. to 11 a.m. breakfast slot.
The move comes in the face of a lower nationwide egg supply, which has been hit by a widespread outbreak of avian flu.
To date, more than 44 million birds have been affected by avian flu, according to the USDA.

"While our supply team continues to work diligently to source more eggs, we feel a limited time period to serve our tasty breakfast dishes is a better alternative to stop serving them altogether," Whataburger wrote in a release.
The privately held chain operates more than 770 locations in 10 states.
