The Apple Watch is in stores. Fitbit's IPO was a raging success.

Now, Pebble's latest smartwatch—which raised a record $20 million on Kickstarter—will be offered by a major retailer.

Starting Monday, the Pebble Time can be purchased on Best Buy's website for $199. The Big Box company's site will be the exclusive seller of the watch, available in black, white or red, for the next month. The device will then hit retail shelves and other commerce sites.

Even as the smartwatch and gadget markets get increasingly crowded with rivals big and small, Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky insists that Pebble's community of enthusiasts continues to grow louder and stronger.

It helps that the Palo Alto, California-based company has been profitable since 2012, has plenty of cash in the bank and no need to raise money, he said.

"We're seeing pretty strong demand," Migicovsky said. "We're just focused on making awesome products and getting them into people's hands and on their wrists."

Best Buy will be promoting the Pebble Time on the wearables section of its website. Meanwhile, Pebble will promote the idea that this is the first place to get the device since its Kickstarter offering.

Marketing is becoming a bigger focus for Pebble since the company hired former Under Armour executive Nathan Shriver as its head of marketing in April.

"As a company born on Kickstarter we've always had a very grassroots approach to marketing," Migicovsky said. "Nathan is joining to help us shape the future of how we talk about our brand. We're growing up."

Brand recognition will be critical for Pebble as it tries to lure consumers who now have many choices. The Apple Watch hit retail outlets last week, two months after online shipments began.

Fitbit, which sold shares to the public on Wednesday, is valued at $6.7 billion, and enjoys a dominant share of the fitness-tracking market.

Pebble's watches sync with Android-powered phones and iPhones. Key features of the Pebble Time include up to seven days of battery life, a 3-D accelerometer, a compass, microphone and step tracking.

The Kickstarter campaign in May raised over $20 million, about $7 million more than the second biggest financing on the crowfunding site. The original Pebble raised $10.3 million in 2012, ranking as the third largest campaign.

In total, Pebble has sold over 1.1 million watches, between the original, the Pebble Steel and the Pebble Time.
