While the iPhone 6S may look just like the standard model, Apple fans should expect a much more potent device this fall, 9-to-5 Mac Senior Editor Mark Gurman said Thursday.
"One of the big things we reported that will be coming is the inclusion of a new processor for wireless networking from Qualcomm, which will allow data speeds over 4G to move twice as fast, which means emails [will be] downloaded faster and web pages loading more quickly," Gurman said in a CNBC "Squawk Alley" interview.
On Tuesday, 9-to-5 Mac published an article showing what it claims to be the first photos of Apple's newest smartphone. The company did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.

Gurman added that consumers should also expect the device to price in between $199 on-contract and over $500 off-contract, in line with previous iPhone models.
Gurman also shared his first impressions on Apple's music streaming service, saying that, while consumers seem to enjoy the service right now, the company will have to wait until the three-month free trial period is over to gauge its success.
"Right now there's a lot of hype and marketing," Gurman said. "But it's free. It's free for everyone to download it right now. We'll see what people really think about it when they have to start paying [$9.99] per month.
Apple's stock was down slightly in midday trade.
