Bonduelle USA recalls frozen corn over Listeria fears

Bonduelle USA announced on Monday that it is recalling more than 9,000 cases of frozen corn for fear of Listeria contamination. (Tweet this)

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and even fatal infections in children elderly people or others with weak immune systems. "Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women," read the press release.

The affected corn was distributed to stores in the following states: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Massachusetts, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana.

Bonduelle USA said it had not yet received any complaints related to the product or is aware of any illnesses.

The company has ceased its distribution of the product and is working with the Food and Drug Administration to find out what caused the contamination.

Texas-based Blue Bell Creameries about four months ago after its own listeria contamination problems.
