Apple may soon allow other people to develop apps for Siri.
The Information reported that Apple is getting ready to launch a software developer kit, citing a source that has "direct knowledge of the effort."
The Information also said that the tech giant may also be working on a speaker and microphone equipped device that would directly compete with the Amazon Echo.
The report comes at a time when more players are getting involved in the voice-enabled, personal-assistant application space. Facebook launched its own digital assistant, M, last year.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that "bots are the new apps." The company's own intelligent, voice-enabled-assistant app, Cortana, became available on desktop through Windows 10 last summer.
