Takeover talk dominated Stop Trading! today. According to Alexander Goldfarb of UBS, who called in to talk to Cramer and Erin Burnett, an industry newsletter reported that real estate investment trust Archstone-Smith might possibly be in talks with Tishman about a transaction. UBS put out a note last night saying that while it is not sure a deal will take place there is reason to think it makes sense given that ASN has a strong portfolio and is trading at a “steep discount” to its net asset value.

Other potential targets include Apartment Investment & Management, Colonial Properties, Equity Residential and Essex Property.

Cleveland-Cliffs, a Cramer recommendation, is also up today on takeover talk. “I’ve been over and over saying it’s cheap on earnings, but I think it will be bought,” Cramer said.

Disclosure: UBS has given non-investment banking securities services to ESS.
