Yahoo has been a publicly traded company for 11 years, and was founded by Jerry Yang and David Filo in April, 1994

  • Yahoo went public on April 12, 1996 at a filing price of $13 per share, it opened at $24.50, and hit a high of $43 before closing at $33 for a first day gain of 153.85%, 8.5M shares were traded
  • Yahoo's current market cap is $38B and it is trading at a P/E of almost 61
  • Split adjusted, Yahoo is up ~1900% since its IPO or 32% on an annualized basis
  • Yahoo's biggest shareholder is Capital Research with 151,900,000 shares

Microsoft has been a publicly traded company for 21 years, and was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen

  • Microsoft went public on March 14, 1986 at a filing price of $21 per share, it opened at $25.50 and peaked at $29.25 before closing at $27.75 for a first day gain of 32.14%
  • Microsoft's current market cap is $289B and it is trading at a P/E of 17.6
  • Split adjusted, Microsoft is up ~38,000% since its IPO or 33% on an annualized basis
  • Microsoft's biggest shareholder is also Capital Research with 556,600,000 shares

Google has been a publicly traded company for a little more than 3 years, and was founded by Sergey Brin and Larry Page

  • Google went public on August 19, 2004 at a filing price of $85 per share based on a Dutch auction, marking the return of the individual investor, hitting a high of 104.04 and closing at 100.33 for a first day gain of 18.04%
  • Google's current market cap is $160B and is trading at a P/E of almost 39
  • Google, which has never split, is up ~400% since its IPO or 60% on an annualized basis
  • Google's biggest shareholder is Fidelity with 24,300,000 shares. Capital Research is number 2 with 14,900,000 shares
