Intuitive Surgical (ISRG) makes the da Vinci surgical system which allows surgeons to operate using robotic technology. It was added to the S&P 500 on June 2, 2008.

Hexcel (HXL) manufactures light-weight composites that are used to make planes more fuel efficient. In June 2008 they won a contract to supply material for the Airbus A350 XWB.

Fluor Corp (FLR) implements and oversees construction projects for a wide range of clients including those in the oil and gas, chemicals, transportation, and mining and metals sectors. In June 2008 the company said its backlog of work for its oil and gas business was $20.4 billion.

Accuray (ARAY) makes the CyberKnife, a laser-like tool that allows doctors to zap tumors without surgery. In April 2008 the company won an ABBY Award for innovation in healthcare.

Amarin (AMRN) is a biopharmaceutical company that specializes in drugs used in the treatment of Parkinson’s, epilepsy and neurological diseases. Among their more promising drugs is Miraxion used to treat patients with Huntington’s disease.

Cisco (CSCO) designs and supplies networking equipment and network management for the Internet. In June 2008 Cisco projected a sixfold jump in Internet traffic between 2007 and 2012 with online video the biggest driver of global data communications.

Hansen Medical (HNSN) manufactures a robotic catheter system. In November 2007 they acquired AorTx a developer of catheter-based heart valve technology.

IMAX (IMAX) is short for Image Maximum. The company developed a way in which extremely large images can be displayed in their special theaters, sometimes in 3-D. In April 2008 IMAX announced plans to build three theaters in Russia.

Cypress Semiconductor (CY) manufactures microchips used in a wide range of devices including computers, consumer electronics and communications equipment. Additionally, Cypress makes solar electric power technology products including solar cells and solar panels.

SINA (SINA) is an Internet media company involved in e-commerce, online games, video streaming and more. Their wide range of services also includes instant messaging, a subscription dating service and online lessons in Chinese.

EMC Corp (EMC) is a data storage provider that commands about 30% of the network storage market. EMC Corp is also the parent company of California based VMWare, a maker of virtual infrastructure software.
