Is Obama Good For Stocks?

With the election heating up, investors can’t help but wonder which candidate will boost their portfolio?

I’ve never seen an election where it matters less, says Rob Cox US editor of BreakingViews.com. The two candidates are barely apart on most of the fiscal issues that matter. If you look at things like energy policy, except for a minor difference on off-shore drilling, they’re practically the same.

One caveat here. McCain says he wants to build 30 to 40 nuclear power plants around the country but it won’t really be his decision, adds Cox. It will be local politics that make the decision. Will people allow these things in their backyard? That’s the real issue.

We probably need higher taxes, Cox says. The best Wall Street can hope for is that they stay the same if McCain wins. If Obama takes the White House he will probably raises the capital gains tax.

And that leads to our Charles Schwab Question of the Day. What do you think?
