Dow (since 1896):

  • Up 61.3% of the time an avg of +.71%
  • Down 38.8% of the time an avg -.97%
  • Best St. Patrick's Day was in 2003; the Dow gained +3.59%
  • Worst St. Patrick's Day was in 1933; the Dow fell -3.53%

S&P (since 1930):

  • Up 63.2% of the time an avg of +.74%
  • Down 36.8% of the time an avg -.97%
  • Best St. Patrick's Day was in 2003; the S&P gained +3.54%
  • Worst St. Patrick's Day was in 1933; the S&P fell -4.33%

NASDAQ (since 1971):

  • Up 48.1% of the time an avg of +.91%
  • Down 51.9% of the time an avg -.79%
  • Best St. Patrick's Day was in 2003; the NASDAQ gained +3.88%
