Madoff Victims' Letters Beg for 'Real' Jail, 'No Leniency'
The victims of Bernard Madoff, perpetrator of the largest Ponzi scheme in history, want very badly to be heard. In the following letters and emails (read links at bottom), victims from all walks of life use their own words to plead with Justice Denny Chin to punish him to the fullest extent of the law.
Bernard Madoff lost his bid Friday to be released from jail until his June sentencing for Wall Street's largest ever investment fraud.
The confessed swindler had challenged a judge's decision to immediately jail him after his dramatic guilty plea, but a federal appeals court denied his request for release.
The following documents are dated March 9, and were forwarded to Justice Denny Chin by the US Attorneys Office for the Southern District of New York. Aside from specific punishment recommendations and personal attacks on Madoff, the documents also include victims' requests that they be allowed to speak at Madoff's plea hearing, which occurred last week.
