Web Extra: America’s Best Brokers

Despite the recent market rally, we’re still in some seriously tough money waters, Carmen said on Monday’s Web Extra. Many are wondering: is it worth using a brokerage to help steer you through the storm?

Consumer Reports recently released the results of a wide-ranging survey it conducted amongst its online subscribers about the best brokers and brokerage houses in the country. From customer service to quality of advice to frequency of fees, the survey rated brokers in a number of areas, including the best overall quality. The top three:

1. USAA Brokerage Services (available to military personnel and their families)

2. Vanguard (the mutual fund brokerage was found to have above average phone support)

3. Edward Jones (this discount full service brokerage competes well with the big names)
