If you think you’ve seen everything on fantasy football, we’re here to tell you that you haven’t. That’s because you haven’t seen “Fantasy Football, The Musical?”

We’re not kidding.

It’s the brain child of David Ingber, who works at a company called Knewton by day, but combines his love of music and comedy by night.

The idea dubbed “a bromantic comedy” started as a joke. Ingber was trying to get into a fantasy league organized by ESPN.com’s Bill Simmons and Matthew Berry. So he thought of the musical idea. But when things didn’t work out, Ingber didn’t stop.

He made Simmons and Berry main characters and decided to base the plot in 1991, before fantasy football was big. That explains the lyrics to this song, called “I’ve Got First Pick.”

And I make a solemn promise, for I cannot plead the fifth. That I won’t choose Thurman Thomas, he’s a man, but not a myth. So I’ll make my selection fourth with –- I choose Emmitt Smith!”

It could have ended there, but after two readings, one of his friends suggested that he enter the musical in the New York Musical Theater Festival. About 400 musicals were entered, but Ingber made the final cut of 12. Ingber, with the help of producer Kristin Johnson, raised enough money to be able to do a full-scale production. As it turns out, three of the six shows, which will begin Oct. 1, are already sold out.

“The idea of the festival isn’t to break even, it’s to give exposure to the show and the people behind it,” Ingber said. “It might be unlikely that the show moves on, but maybe someone sees it and falls in love with it.”

If you want to sample it, here are two of the hit songs (“Man Friends” and “Sports Is My Religion”) from the musical.
