US President Barack Obama faced a bleak political landscape on Wednesday after voters punished Democrats over high unemployment and a sluggish economic recovery.
Diego Iscaro, senior economist at IHS global economist, told CNBC, "The election is very difficult to call, a week is a long time in Greek politics and we still have four weeks until the election, one thing you could say is that if you believe the polls most Greeks want to stay in the euro zone."
Hugo Dixon, editor at Reuters Breakingviews, told CNBC, "The problem with fully fledged fiscal union is that I just don't think the people of Europe are ready for it and if the elite try and force it down their throats you'll get even more power going to the extremist parties like Marine Le Pen in France, so I think you need an alternative."
Laura Fitzsimmons, VP, Futures & Options, JPMorgan Investment Bank says investors should be short riskier assets like currencies and equities and wait for a short-term bounce to ride out the uncertainty.
