How to Play China's Slowdown

Chinese manufacturing data that showed a slowdown that helped US stocks rally Monday and investors hope the data will lead the Chinese government to restart the world's growth engine.

The data is just what investors wanted to see, notes David Riedel of Riedel Research. That is, a slowdown, not a meltdown.

To play the positive news, Riedel recommends avoiding the energy space in China because of government regulation. Instead, he prefers consumer-oriented names, like New Oriental Education & Technology Group , Zhongpin and China Mobile Limited . The government seems to be driving the economy toward the consumer, he says, so position your portfolio accordingly.

While Tim Seymour of EmergingMoney.com likes Riedel's plays on the Chinese consumer, he would go with the industrials. Seymour expects an industrial "ramp up" in the second-half of the year and recommends going with Aluminum Corporation of China Limited.
